We exhibited at Employee Benefits live for the first time this year and it was a great success. On the 10th and 11th October our merry band traveled down to Olympia to join the other 130 plus employee benefits companies showcasing their latest products and services. It was really interesting to see the variety offered to companies, with a serious focus on how to support carers, look after your employees mental health and create in inclusive and diverse culture.
We came across some great HR representatives, truly passionate about their employees and what they could do to make their ‘work life’ and ‘life life’ balance as harmoniously as possible. After all “The way you treat your employees is the way they will treat your customers” – Thank you Mr Branson!
It was great to see two talks this year highlighting the importance of supporting the carers in your workforce and how exactly you can do that. Andrew West from The Royal College of Nursing honed in on the fact that informal carers account for 7.9 million people in the UK, it is an organisational risk not to appeal to those people, you will lose your most knowledgeable employees from your talent pool. He also touched on how this is already affecting companies absence, engagement and productivity. It is not all doom and gloom though, there were three providers at the show this year all offering a solution, us included.
Our stand – lovingly designed by us to look like a cosy, welcoming kitchen – was a hit, along with our tea biscuits and lip balm giveaways. Our aim was to get everybody talking about the stress on informal carers using the hashtag #carerconvo. It is still quite a taboo subject in the workplace and we want to highlight the pressure people are under and help companies to become open and trusting environments where it is no longer a taboo.
Until next year…..
